Answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)

Do you give "free" estimates?

In many cases, yes. We can give a ballpark figure on your proposed project over the phone, or you can see our Remodeling Price Guide. However, with the complexity of some projects, we often charge a proposal fee (starting at $30.00 and credited towards the project if you sign with us).

Why do you charge for proposals?

Our average proposal is anywhere from 2-10 pages long, and usually contains quotes from multiple product vendors and/or subcontractors. It is extremely detailed for the industry, and requires a lot of research and preparation on our end. Isn't that the cost of doing business? Yes, to an extent. But when a proposal can take anywhere from 3-20 hours to prepare (including site visits, vendor meetings, product research, labor calculation, etc.) we do not like to waste the poential clients valuable time on preparing something that is out of their budget, so we have found that a small fee ($30.00), credited towards the project, allows us to focus on more serious and qualified clients, all the while producing a more detailed proposal.

How many estimates should I get?

If the contractor has been recommended to you and you have seen their work and met with them, that is usually all that is needed. If you are hiring a contractor for the first time, it is advisable to obtain 2-3 estimates or bids. Reputable, reliable, legal (insured, registerd, etc.), established contractors will usually be within 10-20% of each other. If that is the case, you must chose who you are most comfortable working with.

I've gotten 3 estimates, why are they are all over the place?

This questions comes up a lot. More times then not, the 3 bids do not all have the same scope of work and/or materials. Take time to sit down and compare all three. If necessary, call the contractors and ask clarifying questions or meet with them again if you have to. The estimate or proposal will more than likely become the contract, and if it is not covered in writing, then it is not included in the work to be completed—so be sure any verbal agreements are also in writing. Additionally, the cost of being a legitimate contractor carries a slightly higher price tag. Insurance, registrations, affiliations, training, equipment, advertising, and more are all expenses incurred by a legitimate business.

Do you guarantee your work?

We proudly stand by all of the work we perform. All work comes with a one year warranty on labor from the date of completion and is outlined in our contract. Additionally, we act on your behalf to handle any warranty claims that may arise out of materials purchased and installed by our company.

Are you insured?

Yes, we maintain a current general liability insurance policy that covers up to $1 million per occurrence for both physical property damage and personal injury in the event any unforeseen damages occur to your house or property while performing work. An up to date, valid certificate of insurance is available upon request.

Are you a registered Home Improvement Contractor with the state of Pennsylvania?

Yes. As of July 1, 2009, the State of Pennsylvania instituted a state-wide contractor registration program. Our official Home Improvement Contractor Registration Number is #2783 and can be verified with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General's Bureau of Consumer Protection by calling toll-free within Pennsylvania 1-888-520-6680.

How soon can you start our project?

In most cases, work can start within 4-6 weeks of acceptance of a proposal. This is usually enough time to secure necessary materials, obtain any building permits and get you on our schedule.

Do you perform small jobs?

Yes, we will come out and give you an estimate and perform a job, no matter how big or small. From the largest most complex whole house remodel or renovation to simply installing a storm door or replacing a couple of windows, we will complete the job in an above satisfactory manner no matter the size or scope of the work.

Who will be in charge of our project?

The company owner, Mark Cooke, oversees, and in most cases, performs the actual work, for all aspects of the job. When subcontractors are needed, they are supervised directly by us and all work conforms to our high standards. Additionally, all subcontractors are fully insured and verified by us to eliminate any liability on your part.
